It’s been awhile. Nothing particularly exciting has happened, but enough to keep me on my toes.
I went to my first job interview for a potential seasonal job last Saturday. I wasn’t expecting a call ’til midweek but they called on Monday to confirm one for today (Wednesday). I met with the district manager, whom I don’t think is the same as when I first worked for the company. I was able to show her some portraits from my portfolio that I sort of threw together a couple of nights before, lol.
I read online that you should have portfolios made up for different audiences, such as portraits, weddings, sports, news, etc. But I don’t really have a specific focus when I photograph nor do I think I have enough photos in any of those categories to warrant separate portfolios. I capture what I see.
Anyways, this whole process has me confused. When I first got a job with a sister company of the company I applied to a couple of winters ago, I walked in for the interview and walked out with a solid job offer. I started two days later, no extra paperwork or hoopla, lol. So all these additional steps are kinda like, “wuh?” I find it hard to believe that a company would change that much in two years.
My background check is being conducted very soon, and I’m supposed to get an email to confirm some things. I’ll nail the job, I’m pretty sure. I’m not a felon and I prolly only have my car accident from July on my records, if that. I haven’t seen my corporate overlords since I applied, and I did apply only last Wednesday, lol. I want so badly to drop hints about what I’m doing, to sort of throw it in their faces that I am making a (potential) getaway. But I’m afraid to spoil it. What if I don’t get it for some reason or another?
If they refuse to accommodate this second job, I will stand my ground. I will put my two weeks in without a second thought. I have been looking for an excuse to leave and I’d rather have a solid job in place before I do. And even though it’s seasonal and I’ll prolly have to find something in the spring, at least I’ll be out of hospitality. By then, I hope to have grad school socked away. Hopefully everything will work out. I’m sure of it.
I decided to delete my profiles on 2 dating sites. I paid for the other one for 6 months (stupid mistake), so I’m stuck with that ’til it expires, lol. That should end pretty soon, actually. It’s been awhile since I ordered it. I found maybe 3 decent guys from a combination of the 3 sites I was signed up to. I friended two of them on FB and one I have his email and I’m talking to 2 of them. The other got a girlfriend sometime after I friended him, lol.
I sold my iPhone for $90, which isn’t too bad considering the damage. They were quoting $109 but I knew it wasn’t worth that. So to squeak by with $90 bones ain’t too bad at’all. They’re sending the check tomorrow and it’s coming from Reno, which is north of me. I’ll prolly get it this weekend, if I’m lucky. If I get it by Saturday, I can dump it in the mail on Monday. Yeah, my bank is on the East Coast. I like doing business with them. I feel safe with them as well, because they weren’t in any way affected by the bank failures earlier this year. That’s a big reason why I don’t wanna change banks. I have to put signed checks in the mail & hope that the USPS doesn’t lose ‘em. Luckily I have been safe, knock on wood.
I also am expecting quite a bit of lettuce from all the books I sold this far. I’m sad I have to sell them but I made up for it when I went to the library today. The used bookstore was open, lol. I bought:
“Heidi” by Johanna Spyri
“Johnny Tremain” by Esther Forbes
“A Treasury of Kahlil Gibran”
“The People That Time Forgot” by Edgar Rice Burroughs
For $1.50. I feel like I’m cheating someone out of money somewhere in this, lol.
And with the combination of the iPhone, my books on Amazon, and some extra cash from American Princess, I may be able to enjoy Disneyland in full. I was truly worried I would only have enough to have it be a barebones trip. But with all this extra cash coming in – including whatever I get from Friday’s paycheck, I should be good to go. A little less than I originally budgeted for but I’ll take whatever I can get!
School is alright. We have a group project due at the end of the semester in Historical Investigation and we were supposed to have chosen a topic at the end of class & fully didn’t, lol. We were kinda interested in doing something on space travel but then we sort of lost the plot as we were trying to narrow it down.
One of my groupmates seems bent on doing something from the Holocaust but I feel like there’s so much more we could be doing. It doesn’t help that she’s prolly taking the Holocaust class they offered this semester. I skipped it because 1) I have learned all I can from it, 2) I didn’t need the credits, and 3) being Asian, my heart is more in the Pacific theater of WWII.
I found this book on the original war on drugs, the opium trade in early 20th century America, at the library today. I’m gonna spring it on them when I see them next week, lol. Of course being the only Asian, I might have to hardcore sell it.
I went to see “Extract” today. It’s by Mike Judge – who gave us the brilliance that is Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill, and Office Space. I’ll have to post a proper review on Kiss My Sass soon, but I truly & honestly enjoyed it. Every actor (Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis, Ben Affleck, Clifton Collins Jr., Kristen Wiig and Gene Simmons, those are the big names anyways) had me sold on their characters from the start. I love the fact that Mike can find humor in our everyday lives. I love how accessible the characters were because having worked in retail and customer service as long as I have, these could be my co-workers! He should come do a movie about me, lmfao. Nah, it’d prolly be too dark and strange, haha.
I’m on call tomorrow, so I’m gonna relax for the rest of the night. I’ve been running around all day. School in Henderson, then the library in Summerlin to reactivate my library card, check out some DVDs for the week and buy the used books, then Albertsons for errands, then the job interview, then the movie at Town Square.
I swear I feel like I’ve run all over this town. I’m exhausted!

The less that can be said about me, the better.
Your new system for commenting takes a little getting used to but yay finally got through!
Second, last movie I saw was St. Trinians. Looking forward to the new one!
Sorry! I didn’t realize how complicated it was when I installed it but the other plugins were WAY worse, lol. I was kinda paranoid about the wrong people reading this blog. I want to make this blog as private as possible. I don’t promote it on NBS (which is the domain I want people to know), and I removed the Twitter plugin. I should be OK, I think.
There are 2 movies that I’m uber jealous the UK gets before the US: Dorian Gray and St Trinians II.
